Diz-se que para jogar poker tudo o que você precisa é uma ficha e uma cadeira (a chip and a chair), e só agora eu descobri de onde surgiu isto.
A história diz que no evento principal do WSOP de 1982 o jogador Jack "Treetop" Straus apostou todas as suas fichas e perdeu, e na hora que ele ia se levantar ele percebeu que ainda havia uma ficha de $500 escondida em baixo de um guardanapo. Os organizadores do campeonato foram chamados para decidirem o que fazer, mas como o jogador simplesmente apostou as fichas que ele supostamente tinha e em momento algum ele se declarou "all-in", eles optaram por deixar ele continuar jogando.
Eis que Treetop (que tinha este apelido por ser muito alto) foi dobrando seu stack várias vezes e acabou vencendo o evento principal daquele ano, ganhando no heads-up de Dewey Tomko e faturando a bagatela de U$ 520.000,00.
Algumas fontes afirmam que a grande virada ocorreu na mesa final do evento, mas o livro "The biggest game in town" diz que o fato ocorreu no primeiro dia do torneio. O fato é que Jack provou que tudo que você precisa para ganhar o maior torneio de poker do planeta é uma ficha e uma cadeira... além de uma dose cavalar de sorte!
